The Peace

That Comes From God's Presence

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

When we're caught in a storm of anxiety, our first instinct is often to look for an escape. We might try to distract ourselves, busy our minds, or find temporary comfort.

But this verse from the Psalms points us to a better refuge: God Himself. He is not just a distant provider; He is an "ever-present help." This means He is with us right now, in the very middle of our trouble.

The idea of God as our "refuge" is a powerful image. A refuge is a safe place, a shelter from danger. When we run to God with our fears, He provides a safe place for our hearts and minds to rest. He is also our "strength," giving us the power to face whatever is making us anxious.

We don't have to face our worries alone or in our own power. We can find peace by simply turning our attention to His presence, remembering that the God of the universe is not far away, but is an immediate and constant source of help.

Reflective Question:

In what ways have you tried to find refuge from anxiety on your own? How can you practice turning to God's presence as your true refuge today?

Prayer:
Ever-present God, thank You for being my refuge and my strength. I feel overwhelmed by [mention your specific worry].

I run to You now and find shelter in Your presence. Give me the strength I need to face this day and help me to remember that

You are always with me, an ever-present help in my time of need.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
