Giving It

to God

“Turn all your worries over to him. He cares about you.”
1 Peter 5:7 (NIrV)

Paisley first noticed the mole while brushing her hair in the bathroom mirror. It was small, dark, and slightly raised on the side of her neck. She leaned in closer, running her fingers over it. Had it always been there? She wasn’t sure. But now, she couldn’t stop staring at it.

At first, she told herself not to worry. It’s probably nothing. But as the day went on, her thoughts spiraled. What if it was something bad? What if it was cancer? She had read stories online—people who ignored small signs until it was too late.

By evening, her anxiety had taken over. She kept checking the mole every few minutes, tilting her head this way and that in the mirror. She searched the internet for answers, but the more she read, the worse she felt.

What if I need surgery? What if I don’t even make it to my next birthday?

Paisley barely slept that night, tossing and turning, her mind filled with worst-case scenarios. The next morning, she could hardly eat. The fear sat heavy in her chest.

Finally, she broke down. Sitting on her bed, she whispered, God, I can’t handle this. I’m so scared. What if something is really wrong?

As she prayed, a verse popped into her mind—one she had read in a devotional a while back: “Turn all your worries over to him. He cares about you.”

Paisley took a deep breath. God cares about me. He doesn’t want me to live in fear. She let the words settle in her heart.

The next day, she made a doctor’s appointment. The wait in the office felt like forever, but when the doctor finally examined the mole, he smiled reassuringly.

“This looks completely harmless,” he said. “But we’ll do a quick test just to be sure.”

A few days later, the results confirmed it: benign. Nothing to worry about.

Paisley felt relief wash over her. But more than that, she realized something important—whether the news had been good or bad, she didn’t have to carry the burden alone. God had been with her the entire time, waiting for her to trust Him.

She had spent days drowning in fear when she could have been resting in His care. Next time, she promised, she wouldn’t wait so long to turn her worries over to Him.

Prayer:

Dear Lord,

I know that fear and worry can take hold of my heart, making me feel lost and overwhelmed.

But You remind me that I don’t have to carry these burdens alone.

Help me to trust You more, to hand over my worries, and to rest in the truth that You care for me deeply.

No matter what I face, I know You are with me.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
