The Transformation
of the Body
Philippians 3:20-21
But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables Him to bring everything under His control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like His glorious body.
Daily Steps
Having established the certainty of the Resurrection (Day 300), the new believer must understand the glorious nature of their future life. This verse focuses on the incredible change that awaits us: our lowly bodies will be transformed by Christ’s ultimate power to be like His glorious body.
The peace in this principle is found in guaranteed upgrade:
Our True Citizenship: Our hope begins with our identity: our citizenship is in heaven. This means our ultimate loyalty, home, and security are not found in our current earthly circumstances, but in the divine realm (The Ultimate Presence, Day 212). This celestial perspective fuels our eagerness for Christ’s return (Day 299).
The Agent of Change: The transformation will be executed by the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. He possesses the necessary power—the power that enables Him to bring everything under His control (His authority, Day 273). This reassures us that the one who executed the redemption (Day 225) of our spirit is fully capable of transforming our physical form.
The Resulting Glory: The purpose of this great transformation is to change our lowly bodies (vulnerable to sin and death) so that they will be like His glorious body. Christ's resurrected body (Day 298) is the pattern for ours—it will be physical, immortal, and perfect, securing our final triumph (Day 227) and eternal joy (Day 261).
Your peace is secured by guaranteed upgrade. Embrace the Hope of the Resurrection today by looking past the weaknesses of your current lowly body and resting in the promise that Jesus Christ will one day perform this magnificent transformation into a body of glory.
Reflective Question
If your citizenship is in heaven, how should this change the way you view and prioritize your current earthly life (finances, career, possessions)? What weakness or limitation in your lowly body are you most eager to see Christ transform into glory?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I confess my focus on the temporary struggles of my earthly body. I thank You that our citizenship is in heaven. I eagerly await the day when the Lord Jesus Christ will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like His glorious body. Secure my peace today in this guaranteed upgrade, and give me the wisdom (Day 297) to live in light of my eternal destiny. Amen.
