The Oil of

Gladness

Psalm 45:7

You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of gladness.

Daily Steps

When the daily mindset feels heavy with sadness or negativity, the new believer finds peace in the promise of divine anointing. This verse assures us that God provides a special, purposeful oil of gladness—a spiritual joy rooted in righteousness—to lift our spirits above our circumstances.

The peace in this anointing is twofold:

  1. Joy is Rooted in Righteousness: The anointing of gladness is given because God "love[s] righteousness and hate[s] wickedness." This joy is not a shallow, temporary excitement; it is the deep, spiritual satisfaction that comes from living a life aligned with God's moral perfection. When your decisions are righteous, your gladness is secured.

  2. Joy is Divine and Elevating: God "has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of gladness." In the Bible, anointing with oil symbolized being set apart for a special purpose. This oil of gladness lifts your spirit, allowing you to view trials from a higher, more peaceful perspective than those around you who lack this divine joy.

Your daily peace is secured by choosing righteousness, which invites the divine flow of the oil of gladness into your heart, overcoming negativity and securing a joyful mindset.

Reflective Question

Is there a decision you are making or a situation you are facing that is stealing your gladness because it involves a compromise with righteousness? How can you choose the path of righteousness today to claim your anointing of peace and joy?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I confess that my mindset is often heavy with weariness and sadness. I pray for the strength to love righteousness and hate wickedness. I claim Your promise today: anoint me with the oil of gladness. May this supernatural joy lift my heart, secure my peace, and keep my mind focused on the security of Your presence. Amen.
