The Lord
is My Helper
Hebrews 13:5-6
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.’
Daily Steps
When difficulties bring financial pressure or a sense of inadequacy, our peace is often lost to the twin anxieties of materialism and fear. This passage provides a powerful, two-part antidote for the new believer: contentment and the certainty of God's help.
The peace in this declaration is absolute:
The Foundation of Contentment: The instruction to "be content with what you have" is only possible because of the divine guarantee that follows: "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." True peace is found when you rely on God's permanent presence, not on temporary possessions.
The Response of Confidence: Because God promises never to abandon you, you can confidently declare, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid." Your fear is instantly dissolved by the certainty that the Almighty is actively on your side and committed to assisting you through every difficulty.
Your peace in the face of financial or personal hardship is secured by trusting God's permanent presence and claiming Him as your faithful, ever-present Helper.
Reflective Question
What area of your life is currently lacking peace because you are prioritizing a material need over your divine Helper? How can you declare today, "The Lord is my helper," and live in the confidence that frees you from fear?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I confess my anxiety when difficulties expose my lack. Forgive me for chasing material security. I thank You for Your unwavering promise: "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." Because of this, I declare with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid." Let Your peace guard my heart and my mind today. Amen.
