The Wisdom of

Integrity in Work

Colossians 3:23-24

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, and not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Daily Steps

This final entry on diligence (Day 241) shifts the focus from the quantity of effort to the quality of the motivation. It provides the new believer with the ultimate purpose for all work, securing spiritual integrity and peace: work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.

The peace in this principle is found in eternal motivation:

  1. The Standard of Effort: We are commanded to work with all your heart. This requires complete commitment, honesty, and effort in every task, regardless of how small or menial it seems. This standard of working with diligence applies to every area of life, including jobs, studies, and family responsibilities.

  2. The Ultimate Employer: The crucial perspective shift is working as working for the Lord, and not for human masters. When Christ is seen as your true employer (Sovereignty of Christ, Day 219), your work gains eternal meaning and worth (Day 228). This shift removes the anxiety that comes from seeking validation from people.

  3. The Guaranteed Reward: This perspective is supported by a powerful promise: you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Knowing that your faithful work has an eternal reward (The Crown of Righteousness, Day 224) secures deep, lasting peace and motivation that transcends any daily frustration.

Your peace is secured by eternal motivation. Embrace the wisdom of working with integrity and diligence, knowing that you are serving the Lord Christ and that your honest effort is guaranteed an inheritance as a reward.

Reflective Question

If Jesus Christ were your direct supervisor, how would that change the quality, integrity, and attitude with which you approach your current work or tasks? What is one specific, overlooked task you can complete today with all your heart, dedicating it to the Lord?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I confess my temptation to work carelessly when others are not watching. I pray for the wisdom and integrity to approach every task with all my heart, as working for the Lord.

Thank You for the promise of an inheritance as my reward. Secure my peace today in the knowledge that it is the Lord Christ I am serving through all my efforts. Amen.
