Continue in the Word
2 Timothy 3:14-17
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Daily Steps
Having surveyed the entire Christian life—from the nature of God (Month 1), through salvation (Month 10), the Holy Spirit (Month 19), and the Church's mission (Month 20)—the new believer is now given a final, non-negotiable command: continue in what you have learned. This verse roots the entire life of resolute obedience (Day 283) and steadfastness (Day 339) in a sustained commitment to the Holy Scriptures.
The peace in this principle is found in permanent equipping:
The Command to Persevere: The instruction is to continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of. This emphasizes lifelong diligence (Day 292) and perseverance (Day 337). Our faith (Day 254) is not a one-time decision but an enduring commitment to the truth we have been taught (apostles' teaching, Day 329).
The Power of Scripture for Salvation: The Holy Scriptures... are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. The Word of God (Day 269) is the ultimate guide to redemption (Day 225) and the source of godly wisdom (Day 291).
The Utility of Scripture for Living: All Scripture is God-breathed (divinely inspired) and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. This confirms the Authority of Scripture (Day 271) as the indispensable tool for growth. Its purpose is to ensure the servant of God is thoroughly equipped for every good work (Day 326), leading to the eternal reward (Day 344).
Your peace is secured by permanent equipping. Embrace The Final Commands today by renewing your commitment to daily engagement with the Holy Scriptures. Depend on the Word of God to be your constant guide, correction, and source of wisdom as you live with an eternal perspective (Day 343).
Reflective Question
If the Holy Scriptures are necessary to keep you thoroughly equipped for every good work, how much time are you intentionally dedicating to them each day? What is one way you can utilize Scripture to correct or train yourself in righteousness today?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I confess my tendency to let the business of life pull me away from Your truth. I thank You for the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make me wise and thoroughly equipped. I pray for the grace and diligence to continue in what I have learned and to always submit to Your Word for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training. Secure my peace today in this permanent equipping. Amen.
