The Assurance

of His Presence

Matthew 28:20

“...and surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Daily Steps

Following the call to abide in Christ (Day 352), this verse provides the ultimate comfort and motivation for all future discipleship (Day 325) and service (Day 326). These are Christ's final words before His ascension—the most profound of all Lasting Promises—assuring the new believer of His constant, powerful, and guaranteed presence until the very end of time.

The peace in this principle is found in constant companionship:

  1. The Context of the Command: These words follow the Great Commission (Day 325)—the command to go and make disciples of all nations. Christ knew this mission would be difficult, requiring steadfastness (Day 339) and facing opposition (The Conflict, Day 242).

  2. The Promise of Presence: Christ declares, surely I am with you always. The certainty of this promise is absolute (surely). This constant, active companionship is guaranteed through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit (Day 320), making the believer never truly alone, no matter the trial (Day 337) or opposition.

  3. The Scope of the Promise: This promise extends to the very end of the age. This assures us that we are empowered and guided in every moment of our lives, right up until The Return of Christ (Day 306). It removes the fear of inadequacy and fuels the courage and diligence (Day 292) needed to live a life of holistic dedication (Day 349).

Your peace is secured by constant companionship. Embrace Lasting Promises today by actively acknowledging Christ's presence in every situation. Let the promise that He is with you always motivate you to live with boldness and faith (Day 342), knowing that the Head of the Church (Day 322) walks with you.

Reflective Question

If you truly believed that Christ is surely with you always, how would that change the way you approach a difficult conversation or challenging task today? How can you consciously invite His presence into the next few hours of your day?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I confess my forgetfulness and my tendency to feel isolated in my struggles. I thank You for the incredible Lasting Promise of Christ: surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. I pray for the grace to recognize and rely upon this constant companionship today. Secure my peace in Your guaranteed presence, and empower me to walk in faith and courage. Amen.
