Crafted
for Good Works
Ephesians 2:10
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Daily Steps
The peace of a secure identity is not just knowing you are loved; it's knowing you were created with a specific, forward-looking purpose. When you struggle with your unique value, you may feel directionless or inadequate. This verse combats those feelings with three powerful truths:
You are God’s Handiwork: The Greek word is poiēma, from which we get the word "poem." You are a unique masterpiece, skillfully and lovingly crafted by God Himself. Your inherent value is in the Creator's design.
You are Created for a Purpose: You were not saved by your works, but you were created in Christ Jesus to do good works. Your life has a divine assignment.
The Path is Prepared: You don't have to scramble or guess what your purpose is; God "prepared in advance for us to do" these good works. He has already laid out the path and equipped you for it.
Peace comes from accepting your identity as God’s custom-designed masterpiece, knowing that your life has built-in meaning and purpose. Your task is simply to walk the path of "good works" that He has already prepared.
Reflective Question
If you look at your unique gifts and background, what is one "good work" or area of service you feel God might have prepared for you? How does knowing your value is tied to His craftsmanship, not your comparison to others, bring you peace?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I praise You as my Creator. Thank You for making me Your unique handiwork and for the unique purpose You have woven into my life.
Help me to stop comparing myself to others and to reject feelings of inadequacy.
Give me the confidence to walk the path of good works You prepared for me, resting in the secure knowledge of my divine value. Amen.
