Gifts for
the Community
1 Corinthians 12:7
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
Daily Steps
A secure identity in Christ leads to a practical, useful purpose. This verse assures every new believer that you have been given something valuable to contribute. You might feel you have nothing to offer the church or the world, but this truth dismantles that inadequacy.
The peace in this truth is based on two facts:
You are Gifted: "To each one" (including you!) the manifestation of the Holy Spirit (which are spiritual gifts) "is given." You don't have to beg for a gift; it is already a part of your identity in Christ.
You have Purpose: Your gifts are given "for the common good." This means your value isn't found in what you gain, but in how you contribute to the body of believers. Your unique talents and spiritual gifts are designed to build up the Christian community and help others find peace and faith.
Stop comparing your gifts to others. Focus on using the unique gift the Holy Spirit has given you. Your value is found in your willingness to serve, knowing that your contribution is essential to the whole.
Reflective Question
If you look at your personality, skills, or even just your natural tendencies, what is one way you can use that "manifestation of the Spirit" for the benefit of your community today?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for gifting me with the manifestation of Your Spirit. Forgive me for minimizing my contribution or thinking I have nothing to offer.
Help me to recognize and use my unique value for the common good, bringing peace and strength to my community.
May I find my secure identity in my purpose to serve You. Amen.
