Purpose

Ephesians 2:10

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Daily Steps

As we continue to explore identity, this verse offers a beautiful and powerful definition of your worth and purpose. You are not a spiritual accident or a random chance; you are "God's handiwork" (the Greek word is poiēma, from which we get our word "poem").

This means you are a masterpiece, uniquely and intentionally crafted by the Creator.

The second part of the verse clarifies your destiny: you were "created in Christ Jesus to do good works." This purpose is not some heavy burden you have to scramble to invent or achieve; it is a pre-planned path.

God has already gone ahead of you and prepared opportunities for you to live a life of meaning and impact.

This truth dissolves two major sources of anxiety: the anxiety of identity (Am I worth anything?) and the anxiety of direction (What am I supposed to do?).

Your worth is secured by your Designer (you are His masterpiece), and your direction is secured by His plan (He prepared the works in advance). You don't have to stress about being "enough" or knowing the whole map—just take the next step on the path He has laid out.

Reflective Question

How does viewing yourself as God's "masterpiece" change the way you see your flaws or struggles?

What is one small, good work (an act of kindness, a word of encouragement) that God may have prepared for you today?

Prayer

Master Craftsman, thank You for designing me as Your handiwork. Forgive me for sometimes feeling useless or purposeless.

Help me to remember that I am a masterpiece with a pre-planned purpose. Give me the faith to step into the good works You have prepared for me today, trusting that my worth is secure in You. Amen.
