The Unshakable

Kingdom

Hebrews 12:28

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.

Daily Steps

After exploring the foundational, relational, financial, and spiritual sources of peace, the new believer finds the ultimate, final assurance: we belong to a kingdom that cannot be shaken.

The peace in this final assurance is found in ultimate stability:

  1. The Nature of the Kingdom: Everything in the visible world (earthly wisdom, Day 181; governments, Day 170; even the world itself, Day 189) is ultimately temporary and subject to change. But the Christian is receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken—it is eternally stable, guaranteed by the Sovereignty of God.

  2. The Response of Thankfulness: The certainty of this unshakable reality requires one response: "let us be thankful." This thankfulness is the core of true worship and is the opposite of the complaining, anxious spirit (Day 190) that comes from focusing on temporary troubles.

  3. The Result is Reverence and Awe: This thankful worship should be performed "with reverence and awe." This is the ultimate expression of The Fear of the Lord (Day 182). When we live in awe of the unshakable Kingdom we are inheriting, the turbulence of the present world loses its power to disrupt our inner peace.

Your final peace is secured by eternal stability. By fixing your gaze on the unshakable kingdom and maintaining an attitude of thankfulness, you worship God acceptably and live with perfect, all-encompassing peace.

Reflective Question

If you compared the things you worry about most to a kingdom that cannot be shaken, how small do your worries become? What is the one truth about this unshakable Kingdom that makes you most thankful right now?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I thank You for the ultimate promise that we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken.

I pray for the spiritual vision to truly see this eternal reality. Help me to respond with deep thankfulness and to worship You acceptably with reverence and awe.

Secure my final and complete peace in the stability of Your eternal, unshakable Kingdom. Amen.
