Knowing
Your Limits
Philippians 4:13
I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
Daily Steps
While this verse is often quoted for achieving great things, it also holds the key to establishing a crucial boundary: knowing and honoring your limits. True peace in relationships comes from relying on Christ's strength, not foolishly trying to operate outside of it.
For a new believer, recognizing your limits is an act of humility, not failure. When people ask you to do too much, or when you feel emotionally depleted, trying to push through in your own power leads to eventual collapse and resentment in the relationship.
The peace comes from defining your limits by what Christ has truly equipped you for:
Reliance: The ability to "do all this" is entirely "through him who gives me strength." Your strength is conditional upon His enabling power.
Discernment: You are not meant to do everything, but everything He calls you to do. Setting a boundary is saying, "I have reached the limit of the strength He has provided for this task/commitment right now."
By acknowledging your human limitations and relying on God's strength for your core duties, you can establish clear boundaries that protect your well-being and maintain the peace of a sustainable commitment.
Reflective Question
In what area of your life are you currently pushing past your healthy limits and operating in your own strength (e.g., caring for others, work, ministry)? How can you surrender that burden to Christ and set a limit today?
Prayer
Lord, I thank You that Your strength is sufficient for me. Forgive me for relying on my own limited power, which leads to exhaustion and resentment.
Help me to know and honor my limits and to only attempt the things You have genuinely equipped me for. May the peace of resting in Your strength be the foundation of my boundaries today. Amen.
