The Hospitality

of the Heart

Romans 12:13

Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

Daily Steps

Finding peace in your relationships extends beyond close friendships to your larger spiritual community. This verse calls new believers to two vital, outward actions: sharing resources and practicing hospitality.

Hospitality is more than just inviting someone to dinner; it is the deliberate act of welcoming a person into your space, sharing your time, and extending yourself to meet a need. It is a tangible way to express love and build unity.

The peace found here is in overcoming selfishness and fear:

  1. Overcoming Selfishness: "Share with the Lord’s people who are in need." Peace is undermined when we hold onto our resources or time too tightly. Generosity frees us from the anxiety of scarcity.

  2. Overcoming Fear: "Practice hospitality." This means intentionally welcoming others, even if it feels awkward or inconvenient. True community is built in the shared space of vulnerability and welcome.

When you open your life and your heart to serve others through practical hospitality, you actively invest in the peace and unity of the Christian community.

Reflective Question

Who is one person in your life or church community that you could extend simple hospitality to this week (e.g., a cup of coffee, a phone call, or a shared meal)? How would this action serve their need or loneliness?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the generous welcome You have given me into Your family. Forgive me for holding my resources or my time too tightly. I pray for the spirit to practice hospitality today.

Show me the needs of Your people, and give me the joy of sharing with them, building a peaceful and unified community through my actions. Amen.
