Fulfilling the Law
of Love
Romans 13:10
Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
Daily Steps
The final security for a peaceful daily mindset is found in your relationships with others. When you live in conflict, grudges, or fear of others, inner peace is impossible. This verse assures the new believer that all external obedience and internal harmony are achieved through one principle: love is the fulfillment of the law.
The peace in this principle is comprehensive:
The Simple Command: "Love does no harm to a neighbor." This defines love in its most practical sense—a commitment to actively seeking the well-being of others and avoiding any action that would cause them damage, whether physical, emotional, or relational.
The Fulfilling Principle: "Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law." Jesus summarized the entire Old Testament Law as loving God and loving your neighbor. When your life is driven by this divine love, you naturally walk in holiness and obedience, which eliminates guilt and internal contradiction.
The Result is Harmony: A mind focused on loving others—rather than competing with them, resenting them, or fearing them—is a mind free from the conflicts that destroy peace. Your relationships become a source of peace, not anxiety.
Your daily peace is secured by choosing love. When you act in love, you fulfill the entire will of God and ensure that your heart and mind are aligned with the very nature of Christ.
Reflective Question
Is there a specific person in your life today who you are struggling to love (perhaps someone who is difficult or has harmed you)? How can you commit to doing no harm to that person today, allowing that act of love to restore your inner peace?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I confess my difficulty in extending true love, especially to those who challenge me. I pray for the spiritual power to let love be the fulfillment of the law in my life today. Help me to do no harm to my neighbor, but rather to seek their good. May this active obedience secure the peace of a conscience clear before You and others. Amen.
