The Spirit as the

Seal of Our Inheritance

Ephesians 1:13-14

And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of His glory.

Daily Steps

This final entry on the Spirit as Guide and Teacher emphasizes His role in providing ultimate assurance. The Holy Spirit is given to every believer as a permanent seal and a deposit, offering tangible proof (Day 298) that our salvation is secure and our eternal inheritance is guaranteed.

The peace in this principle is found in secured salvation:

  1. The Process of Inclusion: Our salvation began when we heard the message of truth and believed the Gospel. At that moment of faith (Day 254), two things happened: we were included in Christ (our ultimate identity, Day 288) and marked... with a seal—the Holy Spirit. This seal denotes ownership and protection.

  2. The Guarantee of the Deposit: The Spirit is described as a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance. In the ancient world, a deposit was a down payment that secured the final purchase. The Holy Spirit is the living down payment, a divine assurance that the Father will fully deliver the promised new heaven and a new earth (Day 308) and our glorious body (Day 301).

  3. The Goal is Glory: The entire sequence—from hearing the truth to receiving the deposit and securing the final redemption (Day 225)—is for one purpose: to the praise of His glory. This ultimate end should fuel our purposeful action (Day 274) and grateful devotion (Day 285).

Your peace is secured by secured salvation. Embrace The Work of the Holy Spirit today as your permanent seal and deposit. Rest in the certainty that the Spirit's presence within you is God's final, unbreakable guarantee of your eternal inheritance.

Reflective Question

How does viewing the Holy Spirit as a deposit guaranteeing your inheritance change the way you respond to doubts about your salvation? What is one way you can live today to the praise of His glory, acknowledging the certainty of your secured salvation?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I confess my occasional doubts about the certainty of my salvation. I thank You that when I believed, You marked me with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, as a deposit guaranteeing my inheritance. I pray for the wisdom and faith to rest in this unshakeable promise. Secure my peace today in my secured salvation, and may my life always bring praise of Your glory. Amen.
