The Necessity
of Gathering
Hebrews 10:24-25
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Daily Steps
Having grasped the Mandate for Discipleship (Day 327), the new believer must understand the essential role of The Practice of Fellowship. This verse explicitly commands the gathering of believers, not just for personal benefit, but as a vital, purposeful tool for mutual growth and preparation for The Return of Christ (Day 306).
The peace in this principle is found in mutual encouragement:
The Purpose of Meeting: Our gathering is not passive; it is active. We meet so that we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. This goes beyond mere social connection; it is discipleship (Day 325) in action—motivating each other toward resolute obedience (Day 283) and works of service (Day 326).
The Command to Gather: The command is clear: not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing. Fellowship is a foundational spiritual discipline, essential for maintaining unity (Day 323), receiving equipping (Day 326), and engaging in mutual care (Day 324). Isolation leads to spiritual weakness.
The Urgency of the Day: This practice is urgent all the more as you see the Day approaching. As the time for Christ's return (Day 306) and the final Judgment Seat (Day 307) draws nearer, our need for encouragement, wisdom (Day 297), and accountability increases.
Your peace is secured by mutual encouragement. Embrace The Practice of Fellowship today by making the commitment to not give up meeting together. See your presence not just as a need for yourself, but as a vital act of love (Day 317) necessary to spur one another on in this spiritual journey.
Reflective Question
What is one way you can personally spur one another on toward love and good deeds the next time you meet with your church family? Is there anything hindering you from consistently meeting together that you need to address?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I confess my tendency toward spiritual isolation and self-reliance. I thank You for the Body of Christ and the command to not give up meeting together. I pray for the diligence and love to actively spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Secure my peace today in this mutual encouragement, and help me to be faithful to The Practice of Fellowship as I await Your Son's return. Amen.
