The Scope

of the Command

Matthew 28:19a

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations...

Daily Steps

Following the declaration of Christ's authority (Day 273), Jesus immediately issues the core command that defines the mission of the Church and every new believer. This verse clarifies the three vital elements of the Great Commission: the action, the goal, and the scope—go and make disciples of all nations.

The peace in this principle is found in purposeful action:

  1. The Action: Go: The command begins with go. This implies movement, outreach, and leaving a passive state. The Call to Mission requires taking the initiative to move toward people who do not yet know Christ. This active posture (The Value of Diligence, Day 242) is the first step in sharing the Gospel.

  2. The Goal: Make Disciples: The ultimate objective is not merely making converts, but to make disciples. A disciple is a learner, a follower, and an obedient imitator of Christ (The Final Command, Day 215). This means our mission involves teaching, modeling, and walking alongside others as they mature in their faith (Day 254).

  3. The Scope: All Nations: The field of ministry is global: of all nations. This ensures that the believer's sense of generosity (Day 246) and intercession (Day 251) extends beyond their local community to encompass every people group on earth. This universal scope prevents our mission from becoming self-centered.

Your peace is secured by purposeful action. Embrace your Call to Mission today by moving forward in the authority of Christ and seeking opportunities to make disciples of all nations, knowing that this intentional celebration (Day 264) of God's redemptive plan is the highest purpose for your life.

Reflective Question

Who is one person in your life—a family member, coworker, or neighbor—that you can intentionally go to today to show Christ's love? What is one way you can commit to make that person a disciple (e.g., inviting them to study the Word, Day 269)?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I confess my tendency to wait for people to come to me. I thank You for the clear command to go and make disciples. I pray for the diligence and courage to actively pursue the Call to Mission. Secure my peace today in this purposeful action, knowing that my life finds its highest meaning in obeying Your Great Commission to reach all nations. Amen.
