Use Your Testimony
There is no more compelling or personal way to share your faith than through your testimony—the story of how Jesus changed your life. It’s a powerful tool because it is undeniable; no one can argue with your personal experience!
The thought of sharing it can be nerve-wracking, but by simplifying your story into three key parts, you can prepare a clear and powerful testimony that lasts just a few minutes.
The Three Acts of Your Testimony
Your story is best told by focusing on three essential points:
Act 1: My Life Before Christ (The Need)
Describe what your life was like before you knew Jesus. Focus on the internal state, not just external actions.
What to Include: Talk about what you were searching for (peace, meaning, happiness, security). What was missing? What were your feelings (lonely, anxious, lost, striving)? Keep this section brief (about 30-60 seconds) so you don't dwell too long on your past.
Goal: To show that you, too, understand what it's like to live life without the hope of Christ.
Act 2: How I Met Christ (The Connection)
This is the pivotal moment—or season—when you placed your faith in Jesus.
What to Include: What happened? Did someone share a Bible verse with you? Did a crisis happen? Did you attend a church service? What was the thought or idea that finally broke through? This should be a clear, simple explanation of the decision you made to surrender your life to Him.
Goal: To clearly present the Gospel—that your salvation came through Jesus alone, not through your own effort.
Act 3: My Life After Christ (The Change)
Describe the practical changes and the new hope you have now.
What to Include: Don't claim that all your problems vanished; that isn't true for anyone! Instead, focus on the real, ongoing differences. Do you have a new source of peace during anxiety? Do you have hope for the future? Is your guilt gone? Do you have a community that loves you? This part should show the fruit of the Spirit in your life.
Goal: To show that Jesus is still actively at work and that the hope you have is real and available to them, too.
Tips for Sharing with Impact
Keep it Short: Aim for three to five minutes. You can always elaborate later.
Be Natural: Use your own words and be yourself. A sincere, slightly fumbled story is far better than a polished, disconnected script.
Be Christ-Focused: The hero of your story is always Jesus, not you. Ensure the focus is on what He did, not what you did.
