The Freedom

of Trust

Psalm 55:22

Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.

Daily Steps

When difficulties make us feel unstable and overwhelmed, the response can be to panic and try to control everything. This verse offers the new believer a path to stability and peace through an act of complete trust and transfer: Cast your cares on the Lord.

The peace in this command is in the guaranteed outcome:

  1. Transfer of Burden: Just as we were commanded to cast our anxiety, here we are told to "cast your cares on the Lord." "Cares" encompass all the daily worries and heavy responsibilities that weigh down your spirit. This transfer is the decision to move the burden from your shoulders to His.

  2. Guaranteed Sustenance: In return for your cares, the Lord promises, "he will sustain you." To sustain means to uphold, nourish, and provide the necessary strength to continue. God takes the weight and gives you the energy.

  3. Guaranteed Stability: The ultimate result is that He "will never let the righteous be shaken." While the world around you may be shaking, your inner peace and spiritual foundation remain stable because your trust is placed in an unshakeable God.

Your peace in difficulty is secured by giving up your cares and trusting that the Lord's strength to sustain you is infinitely greater than your fear of being shaken.

Reflective Question

What "care" are you carrying that is making you feel shaken or unstable right now? How can you verbally cast that care onto the Lord, trusting His promise that He will provide the sustenance you need today?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I confess that my anxieties make me feel unstable. I choose today to cast all my cares on You, the one who perfectly sustains me. Thank You for the promise that You will never let the righteous be shaken. I rest in Your stability, and I receive Your strength and peace amidst this difficulty. Amen.
