Adopted
and Secure
Ephesians 1:5
He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.
Daily Steps
One of the most profound truths about your identity is that you are not merely tolerated or forgiven; you have been adopted into the family of God. Adoption is a legal and loving act that entirely changes a person's status, guaranteeing them all the rights and privileges of a natural-born child.
The peace found in this truth is twofold:
It was deliberate: You were "predestined for adoption," meaning this was God’s plan before you were even born. Your inclusion in His family is not an afterthought, but a core part of His divine intention.
It brings security: Your adoption is secure because it is "in accordance with his pleasure and will." You are a delight to Him! Because your status is based on His unchanging pleasure and will, no failure on your part can revoke your sonship.
When self-doubt or feelings of abandonment creep in, stand firm on this legal truth: You are an adopted, secure, and eternally loved child of God. This secure identity gives you perfect peace.
Reflective Question
What feelings or actions often make you feel like an outsider? How does knowing that your belonging is secured by God's "pleasure and will" entirely change that feeling?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I praise You for the truth of my adoption. Thank You for not just forgiving me, but for welcoming me fully into Your family as a cherished child.
Help me to live today with the boldness and security that comes from knowing my identity is rooted in Your perfect pleasure and Your unchanging will. Amen.
