No More
Tears
Revelation 21:3-4
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Daily Steps
The new believer finds profound peace not only in what the eternal future will be (a New Creation, Day 211), but in what it will not be—the complete eradication of all suffering and sorrow. This passage provides the most tender assurance: He will wipe every tear from their eyes.
The peace in this certainty is found in God’s ultimate presence:
The Ultimate Presence (The New Home): The final, secure foundation of peace is this: "God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them." This is the ultimate fulfillment of peace with God (Day 174)—unhindered, constant, intimate fellowship. This presence is the source of all restoration.
The Eradication of Pain: Because God is present, all the components of suffering that defined the old world will cease: "There will be no more death" (Day 185), "or mourning or crying or pain." The suffering (Day 194) that seemed so heavy and long-lasting is forever lifted.
The Tenderness of God: The most personal assurance is that "He will wipe every tear from their eyes." This speaks to a tender, final, and personal comfort provided by God Himself, confirming that the hurts of the past are not ignored but personally healed. This tender care secures ultimate tranquility.
Your peace in the future is secured by God's final presence. Rest in the certainty that when God dwells with you in the New Heavens and New Earth, He will wipe every tear from your eyes, and all sorrow will be permanently erased.
Reflective Question
If you could feel the presence of God wiping every tear from your eyes right now, what specific mourning, crying, or pain would you surrender to Him? How does the promise of no more death change your view of the loss and mortality you currently face?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I confess the depth of my sorrow and fear of suffering. I praise You that Your final dwelling place will be among us. I pray for the faith to rest in the promise that He will wipe every tear from my eyes.
Secure my peace today in the certainty that the old order of things has passed away, and in Your presence, there will be no more death or pain. Amen.
