The Certainty
of Tomorrow
Matthew 6:34
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Daily Steps
One of the greatest destroyers of peace about the future is anxiety about tomorrow. For a new believer, the command to "not worry about tomorrow" is a cornerstone of faith. Jesus provides a profound boundary for your mind: the present day is your only responsibility.
The peace in this command is found in accepting God's design for time:
Present Responsibility: God has designed life to be lived one day at a time. "Each day has enough trouble of its own"—meaning each day also has enough grace, enough strength, and enough provision for its unique needs.
Future Surrender: Trying to carry the burdens of tomorrow today is a futile act that robs you of peace. When you surrender tomorrow's uncertainty, you are trusting that the same God who faithfully met your needs today will be there tomorrow, meeting a new set of needs with fresh grace.
Your peace about the future is secured not by predicting what will happen, but by accepting the divine boundary: live fully in the strength and grace provided for today.
Reflective Question
What "tomorrow worry" (a bill, a difficult conversation, a big project) are you unnecessarily carrying right now? How can you verbally surrender that specific worry to God and focus only on the grace available to you today?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I confess my anxiety about the future and my tendency to worry about tomorrow. Thank You for providing sufficient grace for this day.
I choose to surrender the burdens of tomorrow to You, trusting that You will meet me there with new strength. May the truth of this boundary bring perfect peace to my heart today. Amen.
