Faith

is the Evidence

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

Daily Steps

The greatest threat to peace about the future is the need to see the outcome before you act. For a new believer, this verse provides the timeless, practical definition of faith that allows you to move forward confidently, even amid uncertainty.

The peace found in this definition is revolutionary:

  1. Confidence in Hope: Faith is not a blind guess; it is confidence in what we hope for. This is an active conviction that God's promises—the good things you hope for—are real and dependable.

  2. Assurance in the Unseen: Faith provides assurance about what we do not see. It gives you the full spiritual certainty (the "evidence") of things that are invisible to your physical senses, such as God’s future provision and guidance.

To live by faith is to trade the shaky ground of visible evidence for the unshakeable certainty of God's Word. When you step out in faith, you secure your peace not because you know the path, but because you know the One who promises the destination.

Reflective Question

What is one small step you need to take today that requires assurance about what you do not see (e.g., forgiving someone, starting a new project, speaking a kind word)? How can you approach that step with confidence based on your faith in God's promises?

Prayer

Lord, I pray for a deeper, more practical faith. I confess that I often wait until I can see the evidence before I act. Help me to grasp that Your promises are the evidence.

Fill me with the confidence and assurance I need to step out in faith today, knowing that this commitment secures my peace about the future. Amen.
