Walking by Faith,

Not by Sight

2 Corinthians 5:7

For we live by faith, not by sight.

Daily Steps

This verse is a concise and powerful instruction on how to navigate the uncertainty of the future. For the new believer, living by faith is the conscious decision to prioritize God's perspective and truth over your natural, human reliance on tangible evidence (sight).

The peace of a life lived by faith is found in where you place your primary trust:

  1. Sight is Limiting: Your physical sight can only show you what is present—the current problem, the visible obstacle, the known facts. Relying on sight often leads to fear and anxiety because human solutions are limited.

  2. Faith is Expanding: Living by faith means accepting the reality of God's power, promises, and eternal plan, which often contradict what you currently see. Faith allows you to see the potential outcome based on God's faithfulness, rather than the present obstacle based on human limitation.

When you choose to walk by faith, you stop being reactive to your circumstances and start being proactive based on God’s promises. This shift in focus is the source of secure, lasting peace about the future.

Reflective Question

What decision or situation today are you viewing with anxiety because you are relying on sight (visible evidence)? How can you intentionally make that decision based on the unseen promises of God's Word, thereby choosing to live by faith?

Prayer

Lord, I confess my weakness for relying on what my eyes can see. I pray for the spiritual discipline to walk by faith, not by sight. Help me to trust Your eternal promises over my temporary circumstances. Strengthen my heart to be proactive based on Your truth, securing my peace and confidence in You today. Amen.
