Transformed
in a Moment
1 Corinthians 15:51-52
Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
Daily Steps
For a new believer, the concept of your body's ultimate future—mortality, sickness, and decay—can be unsettling. This passage offers spectacular comfort and peace, revealing the certainty and speed of your future transformation at Christ’s return.
The peace in this "mystery" is found in the finality of the change:
Sudden Change: The transformation will happen "in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye." This instantaneous change guarantees that all imperfection, weakness, and decay associated with your earthly body will be banished in a moment.
Imperishable Body: Those who have died will be raised "imperishable." Your future body will be incorruptible, perfect, and no longer subject to sickness or death. This is the ultimate comfort against the fear of physical decline.
Your hope about the future is not simply enduring decay, but anticipating a glorious, total, and instantaneous change. This knowledge provides a deep peace, knowing that your body's final destiny is perfection in Christ.
Reflective Question
If you could fully internalize the truth that your transformation will happen "in the twinkling of an eye," how would that change your attitude toward any current physical pain, struggle, or imperfection?
Prayer
Lord, I thank You for the glorious hope of the resurrection and the promise of a perfect, imperishable body. I confess my anxiety over my physical limitations. Help me to remember that this current struggle is temporary.
Fill me with the peace of knowing I will be changed in a flash at the sound of the trumpet, and strengthen me with that hope today. Amen.
