An Inheritance

That Lasts

1 Peter 1:3-4

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you.

Daily Steps

Anxiety about the future often stems from the fear of loss—losing health, wealth, or loved ones. This verse provides ultimate security and peace for the new believer by promising an inheritance that is completely immune to every earthly danger.

The peace in this promise is rooted in its absolute security:

  1. Guaranteed by God: Your hope is a "living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ." It's not a dead, unreliable wish, but a reality based on Christ's victory over death.

  2. Immune to Loss: Your inheritance "can never perish, spoil or fade." No economic downturn, no natural disaster, and no earthly power can touch this reward. It is eternally preserved and perfect.

  3. Secured Location: It is "kept in heaven for you." This removes all uncertainty. God Himself is the caretaker of your future wealth and glory, ensuring that it is waiting for you at the time of Christ's return.

When worries about the future try to overwhelm you, let the security of your heavenly inheritance calm your soul. Your true value and reward are unassailable, securing your peace today.

Reflective Question

What is one thing you are holding onto tightly right now out of fear of losing it? How does the certainty of an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade free you to loosen your grip on that temporary thing today?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I praise You for Your great mercy and the living hope I have in Christ. Forgive me for worrying about temporary losses. I thank You for my inheritance—one that is perfectly preserved and kept in heaven for me.

I rest in this eternal security, knowing that my true wealth is safe with You, and this brings me great peace. Amen.
