The Erasing of

Tears and Pain

Revelation 21:4

‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Daily Steps

This final, climactic verse on The Hope of the Resurrection presents the most comforting image of the New Creation (Day 308): the personal, comforting presence of God erasing every trace of earthly suffering. It defines the eternal environment by what will be permanently absent: no more death or mourning or crying or pain.

The peace in this principle is found in everlasting comfort:

  1. The Personal Act of God: The comfort is intimate and personal: He will wipe every tear from their eyes. This is a tender, one-on-one act of care by God Himself, confirming that every sorrow, grief, and difficult moment suffered during our earthly walk (Day 270) is recognized and validated by Him. This assures us of His unfailing love (Day 218).

  2. The End of Suffering: The ultimate blessing of the new creation is the removal of the four great consequences of sin: no more death or mourning or crying or pain. This is the culmination of the Triumph Over Death (Day 302). Every physical ailment, emotional wound, and sorrowful memory associated with the "lowly body" (Day 301) is permanently removed.

  3. The Reason for Renewal: This total renewal is possible because the old order of things has passed away. The old structure of sin, corruption, and worldly foolishness (Day 290) is gone forever. This secures our eternal environment (Day 308), where only righteousness dwells.

Your peace is secured by everlasting comfort. Embrace the Hope of the Resurrection today by giving every sorrow, pain, and grief to God, knowing that because of Christ's certainty of the Resurrection (Day 300), a day is coming when He will personally and permanently wipe every tear from your eyes.

Reflective Question

If you knew that God Himself would personally wipe every tear from your eyes, how would that comfort you regarding a current grief or disappointment? What pain are you carrying today that you can surrender to Christ in light of this eternal promise?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I confess the sorrows and pains I carry in this life. I thank You for the glorious promise that You will wipe every tear from our eyes and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain. I pray for the faith to endure my present trials in light of this everlasting comfort. Secure my peace today in the certainty that the old order of things has passed away and that I will live in the joy of Your eternal presence. Amen.
