The Spirit as Our
Teacher and Reminder
John 14:26
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
Daily Steps
Having explored the glories of the future (Hope of the Resurrection, Day 309), the new believer now turns to the present source of power (Day 279) and guidance: The Holy Spirit. Jesus promises that the Spirit is actively engaged as our personal Teacher and divine Reminder of Christ’s own Word (Day 269).
The peace in this principle is found in perfect guidance:
The Identity of the Spirit: The Holy Spirit is called the Advocate (or Helper/Comforter). Sent by the Father in Christ's name, the Spirit is our personal representative and helper, providing a sense of everlasting comfort (Day 309) and presence (The Ultimate Presence, Day 212) even when Christ is physically absent.
The Role as Teacher: The Spirit's first key role is to teach you all things. True wisdom (Day 297) and spiritual understanding (Day 286) do not come solely from reading, but from the Spirit illuminating the truth of Scripture. He guides us into deeper comprehension of God's character and plan.
The Role as Reminder: The Spirit also will remind you of everything I have said to you. This is critical for purposeful accountability (Day 307). When we are tempted to stray or forget a core truth (e.g., The Cost of Following Christ, Day 283), the Spirit brings Christ’s commands directly to our mind, empowering resolute obedience (Day 283) and disciplined speech (Day 293).
Your peace is secured by perfect guidance. Embrace The Work of the Holy Spirit today by committing to listen for His voice as your personal Advocate. Rely on Him as your divine Teacher and Reminder, knowing that He is the source of all the wisdom you need to live wisely and sincerely (Day 291).
Reflective Question
When was the last time the Holy Spirit clearly reminded you of a command or promise of Jesus? What is one thing you can do today to create space (e.g., quiet prayer, focused reading) to better hear the Spirit's voice as your divine Teacher?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I confess my tendency to rely on my own limited wisdom. I thank You for sending the Advocate, the Holy Spirit. I pray that He would teach me all things and faithfully remind me of everything Christ has said. Secure my peace today in this perfect guidance, and empower me to live for Him (Day 285) through the continuous Work of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
