The Spirit
Brings Freedom
2 Corinthians 3:17
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
Daily Steps
The ultimate result of the Spirit's Work (Day 319) is not restriction, but liberty. This powerful, succinct verse anchors the new believer's understanding of Christian Living in one central truth: the presence of the Holy Spirit guarantees freedom—freedom from sin's bondage, freedom from fear, and freedom to live fully for God.
The peace in this principle is found in glorious liberty:
The Identity of the Lord: Paul affirms the divine unity: Now the Lord is the Spirit. The Spirit carries the same authority (Day 273) and power as Christ Himself, ensuring that the Spirit's actions are consistent with Christ's redemption (Day 225) and love.
The Source of Liberty: The declaration is absolute: where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. This is freedom from the condemnation of the law (Day 317), freedom from the power of the flesh (Day 316), and freedom from the spirit of slavery and fear (Day 315). The Spirit liberates us to become all that God created us to be.
The Practical Application: This glorious liberty should characterize the believer’s life. It is the freedom to worship with joy (Day 261), to serve with diligence (Day 292), and to live with integrity (Day 294), unhindered by the shame of past sin. This is the purposeful action (Day 274) of a truly free heart.
Your peace is secured by glorious liberty. Embrace The Work of the Holy Spirit today by living in the freedom He provides. Let go of any guilt, fear, or legalistic mindset that holds you captive, and walk in the confidence that Christ has made you truly free.
Reflective Question
In what area of your life are you currently living as though you were still in bondage or under a spirit of fear? What is one specific way you can claim the freedom that the Spirit of the Lord offers in that situation today?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I confess my tendency to forget the power of Christ's redemption. I thank You that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. I pray for the grace to fully accept and walk in this glorious liberty. Secure my peace today in the freedom from sin and fear, and may my life be a demonstration of the liberating Work of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
