The Fountain
of Delights
Psalm 36:7-9
How priceless is Your unfailing love, O God!… They feast on the abundance of Your house; You give them drink from Your river of delights. For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we see light.

Expanding on the truth that the joy of the Lord is our strength (Day 261), this psalm provides the new believer with a rich, sensory description of God as the overflowing, abundant source of all true happiness and fulfillment. God is the Fountain of life and the river of delights.
The peace in this principle is found in overflowing provision:
Feasting on Abundance: The psalmist speaks of believers who feast on the abundance of Your house. God doesn't offer scarcity; He offers an overflowing provision (Day 245) that fully satisfies every spiritual need. This feasting is based on His unfailing love (The Ultimate Love, Day 218), which is described as priceless.
The Source of Delights: The ultimate satisfaction comes from the source itself: You give them drink from Your river of delights. A river of delights signifies a continuous, fresh, and overwhelming source of joy and happiness. This delight is not fleeting worldly pleasure, but a deep spiritual contentment that comes only from being connected to the living God (The Fountain of Life, Day 233).
The Light of Truth: The reason we find this joy is given in the final line: For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we see light. The Fountain of life is God Himself. When we stand in His truth (Your light), we gain spiritual clarity and perspective (we see light), which banishes confusion and doubt, securing lasting peace.
Your peace is secured by God's overflowing provision. Embrace the truth that God is the Fountain of life and the river of delights today, and choose to feast on the abundance of His love for true, lasting joy.

If God is a river of delights, what "stagnant water" (a source of happiness that is quickly depleted, like a bad habit or distraction) are you currently trying to drink from instead? What is one way you can sit in God's presence today so that in Your light we see light?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I confess my tendency to seek satisfaction in earthly things. I thank You that You are the Fountain of life and the river of delights. I pray for the spiritual appetite to feast on the abundance of Your house and for the wisdom to see truth in Your light. Secure my peace today in the overflowing provision of Your presence, filling me with Your true, unfailing joy. Amen.
